Beast that Was: USSR

The Beast that Was: the former USSR

The USSR was the Beast "that was"

Brief Duration of USSR

… the other has not yet come, and when he comes he must remain only a little while (Rev. 17:10)

In fulfilment of the above verse, the Soviet Empire only lasted around seventy years (1922-1991). Of all the other kingdoms represented by the Beast’s heads, only the Babylonian Empire was of a similarly short duration.

The extent of the Beast "that was":

The Soviet Empire (1922-1991) was comprised of four groups:

  1. the USSR (the Beast);
  2. the Eastern Bloc states;
  3. Marxist-Leninist states who were allied with the Soviet Union but not part of the Warsaw Pact;
  4. Third World countries which had pro-Soviet governments.

The Eastern bloc countries were occupied or had a period occupied by Soviet Army. Their politics, military, foreign and domestic policies were dominated by the Soviet Union. Through the use of these puppet regimes throughout central and eastern Europe, the USSR in effect became master of a great part of the former Ottoman Empire without war. The Soviet satellite states were:

Brief history of the Beast (the USSR)

The USSR was formed on 28 December 1922 when delegations from the Russian SFSR, the Transcaucasian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and the Byelorussian SSR approved the Treaty on the Creation of the USSR and the Declaration of the Creation of the USSR. The USSR was formed within a month of the fall of the sixth head of the Beast, the Ottoman Empire.

The Bolsheviks had established the Soviet State on 7 November [O.S. 25 October, hence the phrase “October Revolution”] 1917. Initially, the state did not have an official name. Some coined the mocking label “Sovdepia” for the nascent state of the “Soviets of Workers’ and Peasants’ Deputies”. On 10 July 1918, the Russian Constitution of 1918 renamed the country the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (formerly, the Soviet Russian Republic). For most of the Soviet Period there were in fact fifteen Soviet Socialist Republics, three of which were the illegally occupied Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) which some states did not recognize as Soviet Republics.

The leaders of the Soviet Union:

The Communist Party was banned on 29 August 1991. The dissolution of the Soviet Union occurred on December 26, 1991.

To some extent, the “collapse” of the Soviet Union was planned by the Soviets. Following the “collapse” of the Soviet Union, the RSFSR was renamed the Russian Federation, and the Soviet Union became the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The Ten Horns and the Little Horn emerge from the USSR

The Ten Horns and the Liitle Horn (Dan. 7:8) emerge from the USSR. The Soviet Republics were:

The three Baltic States, which were not recognized internationally, were:

The Little Horn (Dan. 9:26): the Russian Federation

The Russian Federation is the Little Horn of Daniel chapter 7. Like the other Ten Horns, it gained sovereignty after the fall of the Soviet Union. When the Soviet Union is restored, the Russian Federation will be the hegemon.The Little Horn is the Beast.
